I Didn’t See That Coming
Believe it or not, it’s time to start working on the mid-semester project. Using the character that you’ve been created, I’d like you to create a (very) short film around the theme of “unexpected consequences.” The theme is just meant to be a jumping-off point; you can interpret it however you like. Here are the parameters:
- The project should be between 15 and 30 seconds in length. It can be comprised of a single shot, or multiple shots.
- The theme of “unexpected consequences” should be incorporated in some way.
- You must utilize the character you’ve been creating in class. If you’d like to incorporate other characters as well, that’s fine.
- There cannot be any audible dialog in the film. If you’d like to use music or sound effects, that’s fine. You may also use text bubbles or other typography, but think of it as a silent movie – no audible talking.
- The finished movie should be rendered as a QuickTime movie using the H.264 codec. The resolution should be 1920 x 1080 and the frame rate can be either 24 or 29.97.
- Upload your finished projects to your Google Drives and send me a download link.
This is a very short film, so don’t worry too much about plot or character development. Instead, I would suggest thinking of this project as an animation of a single “gag” or action – and the unexpected results that ensue.
Here’s the timeline for the project:
3/1 – Character design due.
3/8 – Work-in-progress draft due.
3/29 – Finished project due.
Here is how the finished project will be graded:
30 points – Creativity and use of theme
20 points – Meets project requirements
30 points – Animation quality and technical proficiency
20 points – Incorporation of class and instructor feedback
100 points total
Good luck!
Update 3/8 – In order to give everyone a little more time, I’m moving the final deadline for the finished project from March 21 to March 29.
